RMBits are the first in the world Meebits style voxel art featuring Chinese characters from famous traditional literature. Currently, there are 12 unique characters minted from the novels "Journey to the West" and "Romance of the Three Kingdoms". A maximum of 888 editions of each character are available, therefore there are 10,656 editions of the original RMBits.

All 12 figures have unique characteristics including the main weapons of use, mirroring the traditional novel characters in the form of Voxel art. In this blog, we will introduce each of the eight characters from the novel "Journey to the West".
"Journey to the West" is a Chinese novel originally written in vernacular Chinese and published in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty. It is one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. Journey to the West has strong roots in Chinese folk religion, Chinese mythology, Confucianist, Taoist and Buddhist philosophy, and the pantheon of Taoist immortals and Buddhist bodhisattvas are still reflective of some Chinese religious attitudes today. Enduringly popular, the novel is at once a comic adventure story, a humorous satire of Chinese bureaucracy, a source of spiritual insight, and an extended allegory. The RMBits characters based on the novel personages include:
Little Stick Monkey King aka Monkey King (Sun Wukong)
The Monkey King is one of the main characters in the novel “Journey to the West”. Throughout the story, his character traits include carelessness, vanity, loyalty and fragility. Everyone can identify his journey to the west as a journey to adulthood. Due to the history of the character, he is one of the most immortal and invincible beings in all of the creation possessing the powers of immense strength, the ability to travel through clouds, shape-shifting (72 Di Sha transformations) and possession of a giant staff that can expand and shrink on his command.
Cheeky smile Tripitaka RMBit aka Longevity monk (Tang Seng/Tang Sanzang)
Tang Seng is a central character from “Journey to the West” presented as a young monk that is extremely kind-hearted, showing idealistic compassion with wisdom. Due to being highly benevolent, he is often easily tricked for the facades of the demons, who disguise themselves as humans. Tang Seng is the leader of the Monkey King, Pigsy and Big Beard Sandy Monk. Throughout their Journey to the West, they encounter many obstacles and antagonists that often wind-up in battle.
Big Beard Sandy Monk aka Sha Wujing
Wujing was once a General in Heaven, however, due to his rage, he was punished by the Jade Emperor and exiled to earth to be a man-eating demon. When Wujing became Tang Seng’s servant, he transformed into a kind-hearted and obedient person loyal to his master. Between the three servants of Tang Seng, Wujing was the most polite and logical character. His abilities & powers include high intelligence, 18 Di Sha transformations, strength and politeness towards all creatures.
Green hat Pigsy aka Zhu Bajie
Zhu Bajie was once a commander of 80,000 Heavenly Navy soldiers. However, he was also banished for misbehaviour and ended up on the earth, where he transformed into a man-eating pig monster. When he became Tang Seng’s servant, his character in the novel was presented as a “troublemaker” due to his laziness, and propensity for lusting after pretty women. In Chinese mythology, Pigsy is the spirit of Greed. Despite his laziness, Zhubajie is a very powerful character that is capable of fighting against most devils throughout the journey, the Monkey King always prefers to bring him together to battle with enemies. The primary weapon he uses is a “Nine-Tooth Spike-Rake”.
Bull Demon King RMBit aka Bull Demon King
Bull Demon King had a long relationship with the Monkey King. In the early chapters of the novel, they became sworn brothers. Later in the novel, Bull Demon King fights with Zhu Bajie and Sun Wukong, revealing his true form of a giant white bull. His character is powerful and ruthless, striking fear in people.
Princess Iron Fan RMBit aka Princess Iron Fan (Tie shan gongzhu)
Princess Iron Fan is a demoness married to the Bull Demon King. She possessed a magical Banana Leaf Fan, which can generate giant whirlwinds which are capable of extinguishing the fire of the Flaming Mountains. Iron Fan is very powerful and manipulative, making the villagers living near the Flaming Mountains yield to her and praise her as a goddess.
White Bone Demon RMBit aka White Bone Demon (Baigujing)
The White Bone Demon is a master of disguises. The demoness is very smart and she once manipulated Tang Seng and others into believing she is a human. Her main aim is to feed on Tang Seng to gain immortality. She is considered to be one of the most cunning demons in the novel. Despite being a demoness, she is also a trickster, who enjoys tricking the companion as she disguised three times to test their intelligence.
Spidy Demon RMBit aka Spider Demon (Zhizhu jing)
Spider Demons are seven sisters, whose true form are giant spiders. Each one started as a normal spider that cultivated themselves for a thousand years until they were able to take human form. The seven spiders shape-shifted into seven beautiful young ladies with evil hearts, they wanted nothing more than to eat the flesh of Tang Seng for immortality. The demoness’ abilities include spitting spider webs out of her mouth, which can be used to bandage injuries or create caste for injuries of broken bones. Despite the healing powers, the spider web can also be used for offence, combined with spiritual energy.
