"Romance of the Three Kingdoms" is a 14th-century historical novel attributed to Luo Guanzhong. It is set in the turbulent years towards the end of the Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period in Chinese history, starting in 169 AD and ending with the reunification of the land in 280 by Western Jin. The novel is based primarily on the Records of the Three Kingdoms. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is acclaimed as one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature; it has a total of 800,000 words and nearly a thousand dramatic characters (mostly historical) in 120 chapters. The novel is among the most beloved works of literature in East Asia, and its literary influence in the region has been compared to that of the works of Shakespeare in English literature. It is arguably the most widely read historical novel in late imperial and modern China. Herbert Giles stated that among the Chinese themselves, this is regarded as the greatest of all their novels. The four RMBits characters are based on the following novel personages:

Liu Bei

Liu Bei is one of the greatest leaders in the history of China. He started his career as a peddler and made his way up to leading an empire to become one of the Three Kingdoms. Liu Bei is famous for his humility, generosity, loyalty, charity and kindness. One of his key characteristics includes spotting and recruiting the right talents for achieving his goals by winning their hearts. Liu Bei's personal weapon is the “Mandarin Duck Sword”, also known as “the male and female double-stranded sword”. As the name suggests, they are two swords of different lengths. The Mandarin sword is 3ft7 long, and the Duck sword is 3ft4 long, both extremely sharp and heavy.

Guan Yu

Guan Yu was a Chinese military general serving under the warlord Liu Bei during the late Eastern Han dynasty of China. His core characteristics include loyalty and expertise in martial arts with continuous moral cultivation. He shared a brotherly experience with Liu Bei on most of his exploits. Guan Yu’s primary weapon of use is the Qinglong Yanyue Knife (Lengyan Saw). The weapon weighs 82 kgs, which displays the immense strength Guan Yu possesses. This weapon has been used in many battles and has killed many enemy generals, so later generations called the “Qinglong Yanyue Knife” the “Guan Dao”.

Zhang Fei

Zhang Fei is another very well-known character in the novel “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”. Many can relate to his character. Zhang Fei is a man of temperament, he does not blindly chase the goals of serving his country and protecting the people, he still has the same problems and weaknesses as other ordinary citizens. Despite being bold in his actions, rude, and generally violent, he possesses integrity, wisdom, and courage. Zhang Fei is one of the most powerful characters in the novel. The weapon he uses is an eight-foot snake spear, which has a footlong shaft and an eight-inch-long tip.

Zhuge Liang

Zhuge Liang is a Chinese statesman and military strategist. He was chancellor and later regent of the state of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period. Liu Bei has spotted Zhuge Liang’s superior intelligence, talent and battle knowledge, and invited his to be an ally three times, after which Zhuge Liang agreed to the alliance. Serving under Liu Bei, he had roles as a diplomat and a logistic officer. He is honest and kind to his friends and well-liked by his companions. A modest and merciful warlord who cherishes his devoted followers, he is widely known as a benevolent and humane ruler, one who cares for his people and surrounds himself with great advisers.
